High School, Joplin, Mo.
Building was completed in January 1897. Located at Fourth & Byers Avenue.
The contract for construction of the new Joplin High school at Fourth street
and Byers avenue was awarded to contractor Mr. Divelbess for $22,748.
The Globe reported in January 1897 that he guaranteed the building in every
particular, as did the subcontractors.

In 1892 it became necessary to build again and $20,000 was voted for ward-school improvements,
additions being made to South Joplin (now the Franklin School), East Joplin, Byersville and
North Heights (now Columbia). The north half of the present high school was built in 1896.

This building became North Junior High School in 1918 and was the
the first home of Joplin Junior College in 1937. The building was razed in
1961.
The beautiful new High School located on 20th street, built and equipped at a
cost of nearly $4,000,000, was completed in 1959. This building was known as
Joplin High School until 1968, when the campus became overcrowded. The
building then became Parkwood High School and operated along with Memorial
High School. The two high schools were merged again in 1986.
The Joplin High School was completely destroyed by a tornado on May 22, 2011.
